KUNST & KERAMIK

I am a ceramic artist based in Germany. My work combines illustrative narrative with functionality. Enthralled with the nature and landscape that surrounds me, I use my hand-built pieces as a canvas for naïve light-hearted contemporary illustrations.

My work is rooted firmly in a sense of place, translated through whimsical painting and sgrafitto techniques, learnt during my art studies at the KHB Berlin Weissensee, where I completed a BA in textile and surface design.

I want users of my ceramics to get a sense of place and joy through my work. I strongly feel that art should be integral to the everyday objects we use, with a nod to the principles of the Arts & Crafts Movement championed by Mary Watts and William Morris.

I work in stoneware to ensure my work is hardwearing and durable, using engobes to add texture and colour. Each piece is unique.

 

In meiner Arbeit verbinde ich illustrative Erzählkunst mit Funktionalität. Fasziniert von der Natur und der Landschaft, die mich umgibt, nutze ich meine handgefertigten Stücke als Fläche für humorvoll-naive, beschwingte Illustrationen. Dabei spiegele ich meine Verbundenheit mit Ort und Natur, ausgedrückt durch Mal- und Sgraffito-Techniken, die ich während meines Kunststudiums erlernt habe.

Ich bin den Prinzipien der Arts-and-Crafts-Bewegung in England sehr verbunden, und verehre die Arbeit von Mary Watts und William Morris.

Ich arbeite ausschließlich mit strapazierfähigem Steinzeug. Für Textur und Farbe setze ich Engoben ein.

Ich möchte mit meiner Arbeit Frauen im „neuen“ Lebensabschnitt ermuntern auch ihre „schlummernden“ Leidenschaften nachzugehen. Mit meinen kleinen weiblichen Figuren möchte ich der Lebenslust Ausdruck verleihen. Ich bin der festen Überzeugung, dass Kunst ein integraler Bestandteil unseres Alltags sein sollte.
